Song writing seminar

  • What’s your favorite song and what is it about?
  • What makes this song “stick” in your head?
  • If you were marketing the song, who would you market it to and why?

Discuss Verse, Chorus and Bridge

Verse – Tells the Story
  • The verses give the details, changing each time to move the story forward.
  • They set the scene, introduce ideas, and help listeners understand the message.
🧠 Think of it as the “chapters” in a book.

🎶 Chorus – The Heart of the Song
  • The chorus usually stays the same each time.
  • It’s the catchy, the part people remember and sing along with.
  • It often sums up the main idea or feeling of the song.
💡 It’s like the main message written in bold.

🎸 Bridge – A Surprise or Shift
  • The bridge brings a change in lyrics, melody, or emotion.
  • It adds contrast or a twist before the final chorus, keeping things interesting.

Happy - Lyrics

Talk about feelings

Returning Emotions (from the original Inside Out)These are the core emotions from Riley’s childhood, still active in her mind:
  1. Joy – cheerful, optimistic, and always trying to keep Riley happy
  2. Sadness – emotional, empathetic, and deeply reflective
  3. Anger – hot-headed, justice-driven, quick to react
  4. Fear – cautious, anxious about danger or embarrassment
  5. Disgust – sassy, sharp, helps Riley avoid bad choices (and broccoli)

🌪️ New Emotions (introduced in Inside Out 2)These arrive as Riley enters adolescence, adding complexity to her inner world:
  1. Anxiety – high-energy and controlling, wants to protect Riley but often overdoes it
  2. Envy – always comparing, longing for what others have
  3. Embarrassment – shy and quiet, big and blushing
  4. Ennui – French-accented boredom, uninterested and emotionally detached
