Lighthouses of Iceland - ​Svalbarðseyri

The lighthouse in Svalbarðseyri at Eyjafjörður in North Iceland. The lighthouse was built in 1920 and rebuilt in1930. It is still in use. It gives automaticly a flash every six seconds. The hight of building is 7,5 m. and the height. of light is 9 m above sea level.​

Location

Svalbarðseyri is a village in the Svalbarðsströnd district on the eastern coast of Eyjafjörður. Svalbarðsströnd is a thriving agricultural area and in the village there is a long tradition of agricultural service and industry and there you also find a small boat marina. Tourism has been on the rise and today the main pillars of the economy are industry and service.
Svalbarðseyri is a great source of local food products, as the biggest workplace there is a meat processing factory. Some of the finest meat products that North Iceland has to offer is produced there, including the famous lamb meat. So the next time you visit North Iceland, chances are that the meat you order at a restaurant will have come from the factory in Svalbarðseyri.

The lighthouse is easy to reach by car at the coast of the little village Svalbarðeyri close to Akureyri. A short walk follows the beautiful coast with amazing views to Akureyri and Eyjarfjörður.
